Veggie time!!!

On Sat. 5.22, we bought 24 tomato plants, 5 hot pepper plants, 2 basil plants, cilantro, rosemary and German camomile...all planted today, just before the big 'heat-up'...finally getting into the 80's for the next week here. Still need to plant some annual flowers/marigolds around the veggie garden--an attempt to keep the critters out.

Lauren, at first, did not want to get her hands all dirty, that soon changed...at 5, she knows the proper way to plant a garden! Thank you grandpa and dad!

A busy week in the dirt

On 5.04, Lauren and I began to plant this week.
A few rows of:
Spanish onions
White onions
Red onions
Lettuce
Parsley

On 5.08/Sat., the weather was cold/windy, so we planted the annuals in the balcony trays in the garage...using the spikes and vines we saved over the winter.

This afternoon we planted the pink and purple/plum flowers around Christine's tree...Lauren did a great job of pulling out the weeds, turning over the soil, laying out the flowers w/ a pattern in mind (purple around the outside edge) and then planting them.

PS: no trip to the native plant sale this or last w/e. :-(

Getting started in 2010

Well, over the w/e some weeds were pulled, some grass seed sowed etc...

Today, mulch around the newly planted tulip area~8 bags of pine mulch (3 for $10--cheap!)

One cube of peat moss was enough...bought two :(
Turned over the garden w/ the p-m and a bag of composted manure...could use more manure...

Bought romaine lettuce, parsly, red onion and some other onions...scalups, white and spanish..all new this year...hoping they are bigger than the walla walla of years past...

damn windy day--took the day off to work in the yard and the rain scrared me...now it is in the 70's/sunny and windy... may plant the buy's later today or over the w/e...

holding off on the canna's and EE's for a week or more...

love this season--thank you Lord for the gift of nature and wonder...
